My name is Dr. Deborah Chabi

As an educator and lifelong learner I am always seeking to learn and grow in new roles and am excited to be elected to represent my friends, neighbors, colleagues, former students, and our wonderful community as your Kane County Board 21 representative.

I have been in Illinois my whole life and was born in and spent most of my childhood in Chicago. Supporting local businesses and community are a priority as more than 1/2 of America's workforce and a large portion of the GDP are supported by local business according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Future proofing our local area is important not only by supporting local business but also the environment to ensure clean water, clean air, and mitigation of flood events by maintaining local biodiversity. Creating more affordable living conditions and housing is imperative as I am hearing from current and former students their concerns about the future.

I have a Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Educational Sustainability program. My focus being Indigenous Science education and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. Learning history of all Americans and adhering to science are some of my core values.

My Bachelor's degree is in biological sciences focusing on microbiology with a minor in Spanish from Northern Illinois University. My Master's degree is in secondary science education with an endorsement in middle school from Roosevelt University.

The classes I have taught are Environmental Science, Zoology, Biology, and Physical science at the high school level. Before I taught high school I was a pre-k educator for several years. Being a pre-k teacher informed the way I teach at the high school level and the way I treat my students. Learning by playing and being open to making mistakes is the best way to go about learning science and lessons from life.

Organizations I am part of

                                                             Volunteer events

Badge image for: Leaders for Just Schools  Participants engaged in a year long journey that examined the roots of racial and social injustice, practiced personal reflection, built relationships with like minded educators and began working to build just schools and communities throughout Illinois. I participated in Leaders for Just Schools for 4 years and also did the Loveworks Book study where we read books by Dr. Bettina Love and had the chance to hear them speak.
